AKM join list of BS EN 1090 compliant companies

AKM

AKM Fabrications are proud to be joining the list of BS EN 1090 compliant companies, as we are about to achieve compliance under the BS EN 1090-2: 2008 Standard.

This was published at the very end of 2008, on December 31st, and will ultimately replace other British Standards including BS 5950-2, BS 5400-6 and some parts of BS 8100.

Its full title – Execution of steel structures and aluminium structures Part 2: Technical requirements for the execution of steel structures – is an indication of its scope, encompassing existing standards on buildings, bridges and masts.

For AKM, joining the list of BS EN 1090 compliant companies means we can demonstrate that our products meet the required standards and not only protect against safety incidents on all kinds of premises, but are safe in terms of their own design and structural soundness too.

In practice, it is up to the specifier to choose the appropriate ‘execution class’ for a structure under BS EN 1090-2, and there are four such classes to choose between.

Execution Class 1 is the ‘least onerous’ in terms of its requirements, ranging to Execution Class 4 for highly sensitive applications – the choice is based on the likely consequences of structural failure, and in most cases a middle-ground execution class is likely to be the best fit.

We will be happy to help specifiers understand the obligations placed upon them by this standard, and to give any further guidance on our products as required – just ask if you need any further details.
