During the summer of 2013 Network Rail were undertaking a complete refurbishment of Nottingham Railway Station. Everlast Group were the main site agents. We were contacted by PTSG Safety & Access Ltd. and asked if we could provide a cantilevered walkway system over a glazed pitch roof being replaced on the Port Cochere building.
Our initial reaction was that the project was beyond our expertise, but having discussed the possible options with our consulting structural engineers and working with Everlast Groups draughtsmen we were confident we could offer a solution to a difficult site requirement.
We designed and manufactured a number of cantilevered bracket variants which PTSG fitted to existing steelwork around the whole perimeter of the roof, some 230 metres in total, including steps to go up and around the old clock tower.
The most difficult task was to ensure that the walkway was entirely level, no mean feat on a 115 year old building with varying facades. However, due to our sheet metal working expertise we were able to accommodate our removable uPVC Evowalk panels and steps so that gutter cleaning would not be an issue. But more importantly we provided a safe route for personnel to carry out maintenance to the roof and building fabric.
