NFRC Roofing Awards show far reach of edge protection

Edge protection

It is easy to think of edge protection as being there purely for when repair work is being carried out to a leaky roof, but the recent NFRC Roofing Awards 2014 highlighted the wide range of different reasons why work might be carried out on a rooftop.

The ninth annual awards ceremony was held in central London on Friday May 16th, hosted by NFRC chief executive Ray Horwood and interior designer Linda Barker.

Some of the categories might not come as a surprise – tiling, slating, sheeting and supported metal roofing each had their own awards.

However, certain categories – such as rooftop solar installations and green roofs – are clearly a sign of the times.

This contrasts against categories specifically about holding on to the past, with an award granted for the best heritage roofing.

And with weather patterns seeming to get more erratic year by year, the award for the best liquid-applied waterproofing could be more hotly contested in the years to come.

With such an array of different disciplines all jostling for position – not just in the awards ceremony, but on rooftops around the country too – the need for adequate edge protection has never been greater.
